Ready, am I?
On my way into work today I was thinking, am I ready to take the next step in my career? Do I have what it takes to move to the next step in my career path?
I have been in the IT industry for over 16 years. I remember the Intel Pentium 166 processor. I remember the technicians I worked with stating we will never need more than 40GB of storage. Yes, that puts an age to me.
So it has been a fun track. I started in a small Mom and Pop Computer repair business. When I graduated from High School, I stated my own computer repair business. Until 2012, I was still running that business. I worked for Utilities, Communication companies, and software development companies. My current employer has pushed my IT skills to the max and beyond. I thank them for giving me the chance to use and utilize suck great technology.
Thing I have accomplished:
- MCSE 2012
- Last Mile Wireless Internet
- VCP Datacenter
- SAN design and setup
- VMware design and setup
- 10GB networking
- Virtual design and setup for clients
- AT&T and Verizon APN setup
- Exchange Administration
- Remote Domain hosting
- VCAP-DCD (coming Soon)
There are many more but these are just a few.
So I think that it might be time for me to look for my next level. I originally thought that managerial was in my future. It still may be, but I have a step that I was to procure before that. I think that it is time for me to look into becoming an Architect. I have been studying for my VCAP-DCD and VCAP-DCA on my path to the VCDX. This has brought a desire that I have not had for a while. Like a leading that I was meant to follow.
When I take constraints, restraints, and goals and put them into the design it is FUN. I enjoy looking from the thousand foot view. Conceptual and Logic designs are my friends.
So what do you think? Is this the right path?
I welcome your comments.
